Since 1978 we have engaged in demanding and often ambitious projects. Our development and production experiences lie above all in the area of fine-mechanical and electronic devices and systems.
In addition to our competent, highly motivated and professional staff, we have at our command a strong partner network of customers and suppliers which are the result of long-term relationships based on respect and trust.
We use these valuable experiences and connections successfully to engineer our own ophthalmic medical products. We design, develop, optimize, manufacture and sell our Gebauer products world wide and all this under one roof.

To ensure the highest level of quality, Gebauer has since 1998 maintained a quality management system, and is certified to ISO 9000, ISO 13485, as well as to Annex II of the EU Medical Device Directive.

History
1978Formation of the company by Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Detlev Gebauer and Mechthild Gebauer in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf; manufacturing space: 6 square meters.
Purpose of the business is design and production of testing equipment and special purpose machines, as well as manufacturing of mechanical parts.
1979The business moves in the basement of the new apartment house in Tiefenbronn-Lehningen.
1986Relocation of the company in the own company building in Neuhausen;
Development of medical products (electrical medical products, vacuum pumps, trephine systems).
1992Transformation of the legal form of the business to "Gebauer GmbH"
1995Launch of the Electronics department by the purchase of two SMT production lines.
Ongoing development and production of special purpose machines (blood bank automation) and medical devices (phaco pumps, microkeratomes).
1998Introduction of Gebauer’s Quality Management System, certified to ISO 9000 and EN 46000.
Formation of Gebauer Medizintechnik GmbH, which from now on takes over the medical devices production.
2000Extension to the existing company building; with an additional 600 square meters Gebauer now has a total of 1,800 square meters of business spac.
2001Introduction of the HighTechBlades department and the facility in Sonneberg/Thüringen, where Gebauer now produces its blade products with state-of-the-art CNC grinding and polishing equipment.
2002Acquisition of the neighbouring premise and construction of a new company building in Neuhausen with an additional 1,600 square meters of production space and offices.
Steffen Gebauer and Markus Gäckle are appointed Managing Directors.
2003Gebauer takes over sales and marketing for its own medical products (microkeratomes); worldwide cooperation with distribution partner.
2004Market launch of Gebauer’s Epikeratome for minimal-invasive Epi-LASIK surgery (vision correction procedures);
Several development projects with partners in the fields of ophthalmology, odontology, dermatology.
2005Detlev Gebauer hands over the management of the company to the next generation; he remains being a shareholder in the company and is still available with his experience and engineering expertise.
2006Transformation of Gebauer GmbH into Gebauer GmbH & Co. KG
Formation of Gebauer Ophthalmic Instruments, Inc. in North Palm Beach, FL which takes over direct distribution of Gebauer's medical products in the US.
2007Gebauer SL Microkeratome for SBK, LASIK and Epi-LASIK launched in the EU.
2008Gebauer obtains FDA approval for its Gebauer SL Microkeratome.
Market launch of Gebauer SL DSAEK and ALK System for lamellar keratoplasty and transplantation of Descement Membrane.
2009Expansion of Gebauer's B2B Sales and Marketing team: Markus Gäckle takes over as Head of Sales and Marketing.
